The symbols within symbols -- that's what catches my eye about the anchor symbol at the same link. It looks more than a little like a cross with a descendant dove -- trying to put whole sermons of content into a simple pictograph.

Charles, I just knew you would know about this. I had looked at the catacombs link a few months ago. The really interesting drawing, to me, was the one of the letters alpha and omega as representative of Jesus. The description doesn't say it, but they are on either side of the superimposed chi and ro, and inside a circle of some type of leafy branch (olive?). Symbols within symbols upon symbols.
