I totally agree with your assessment of Harry Potter books. At 10, Mason read all four books and couldn't put them down. He would read for hours. The naysayers would say that he was possessed! :) Tina also read them and did find very few questionable words in books 3 & 4. Where I may not agree 100% is how to interpret the intentions of Christians that oppose such things. I am not convinced that the practice of opposing such things is always based in good, Christian intention. Maybe it's because I have a streak of cynicism, but I think that all too often the oppostion to some elements of popular culture is based in a negative, pious pride. I know that this attitude exists over books, movies, events and etc. that cannot be shown to be wrong scriptually, but sure can be made to look evil based on the opinion of some. Personally, I find this practice to be repulsive and hypocritical, so its hard for me to say I respect those opinions. By the way, it's nearly impossible to be consistent when you take this type of attitude. I do find the reaction to Internet myths and false stories amusing when people take them so seriously then they aren't really true. Remember in the 70's when charges were made against Proctor & Gamble for having a satanic logo? How many of our churches posted letters calling for a boycott only to find it was a hoax?
