The first question in my mind is, why must the two references be for seperate judgements? Could not the judgement seat be the great white throne? Well since Jesus sits on the throne with the father, see Revelations 3:21 for one example, they actually seem to be two references to the same thing. There is one judgement leading to eternal life or to eternal death. That judgement is based on how we have lived this life. Those who overcome recieve life. I've posted the scriptures below (Rev 3:21, 2 Cor 5:10, and Rev 20:11-15) for your perusal. For more study you might look at Matthew 19:28-30, or the references to the Chief Shepherd that caf posted earlier. Rev 3:21 Luke 1:29-33 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." 2 Cor 5:10 Rev 20:11-15 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. If you've come this far, then one more scripture: One death, one judgement, much simpler that way. |
