Mel Gibson has made the news, lots of it, with a movie that hasn't been released yet about the hours surrounding Jesus' death. Amazingly vehement criticism has been leveled against Gibson for this movie, loaded with hostiliity. I thought the perspective of the article linked below to be of interest, largley because I have had a similar perception of the "agenda" of many of the outspoken critics, namely the trashing of the New Testament in general and the gospels in particular. I don't know whether the movie will be "good" or not, I'm doubtful as Gibson has participated in so many violent gore fests in his previous "historical" films, but the controversy doesn't really have much to do with that. Folks who do believe in the scriptures should have some awareness of the mood of much of academia today regarding the Bible -- which is broadly disemimated through very ordinary media sources.
