In all honesty, I am fairly ignorant of the basic facts. I have been perusing the net in the last few days trying to find an account of what has been going on. The main problem is that most of the info is presented with a slant of some sort. If anyone has a good site they could link, I would appreicate it. From what I can tell, even if Palestine does have a valid complaint, I find myself hard pressed to believe it could in any way warrant the use of suicide bombers upon civilian targets. Suicide bombing is horrible enough, but when you are going into restaraunts and grocery stores, it becomes even worse. I have so far heard two different ideas behind the conflict. One being an arguement over land and the establishment of a Jewish state. Apparently back in the forties (or was it sixties?) Britain turned the problem over to the UN and they split the land between the two groups, Palestine and Isreal. Palestine did not agree to the terms and left, hoping to conquer the whole region on there own terms. A great many conflicts follow. I get fuzzy here because I am not sure what the basis for Palestines claim on the land was, or Isreals for that matter. If it is a land dispute, then there is some hope in my humble opinion. On the other hand, if it is simply Palestinians hating Jews, then we have a far greater problem. How do you negotiate with that mindset? It seems the Palestinians have never been happy sharing the land, so we would need some serious assurance they would be willing to start now. I guess that is my two cents for the moments, I feel bad talking so much not knowing all the facts. If I made any factual errors, feel free to correct them. Hopefully I made some sort of sense.
