As dangerous as it is to run with analogies, I just love them so much. In the case of the garden, I think the knowledge, being the direct result of the action, would be the burning, and God casting them out and telling them they would now die, toil the earth, etc, would be the spanking. What God did was a choice of how to display his displeasure and a method of punishing them, for lack of a better word. Just as a parent decides to spank a child when they disobey.

And to get back to the original point, sice you were kind enough to point out that Paul described it as condemnation, do you believe that parts of that condemnation were passed down to all future generations? If so, I think that would still conflict in some manner with Ezekial.
